Deskripsi
The growing emphasis on 21st-century competencies—such as critical thinking, collaboration, and self-directed learning—has reshaped the expectations placed upon educators worldwide. In this context, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has proven to be a powerful instructional approach, placing students at the center of the learning process. Yet, the success of PBL depends not only on its structure, but also on the teacher’s ability to embrace and implement student-centered principles effectively.
This book, Strengthening Student-Centeredness in Teachers in Problem-Based Learning, aims to provide educators, teacher educators, and researchers with a comprehensive understanding of how student-centeredness can be fostered and sustained within PBL environments. It highlights the vital role of teachers—not as sole sources of knowledge, but as facilitators who guide students in constructing meaning, developing inquiry skills, and engaging in real-world problem solving.
Through a blend of theoretical perspectives, empirical insights, and practical examples, this book addresses the shifts in mindset and practice required of educators to implement truly student-centered PBL. It also examines the challenges teachers may face in this transition and offers strategies for reflection, adaptation, and continuous professional growth.
The chapters in this volume are intended to support professional development at multiple levels—from pre-service teacher training to in-service learning communities. Ultimately, the book advocates for a culture of teaching that places students’ needs, voices, and agency at the heart of educational practice.
We hope this book contributes meaningfully to the ongoing conversation about improving learning through more responsive, student-centered teaching in problem-based settings
